Permeable paving is designed
to help with the requirements of Sustainable Urban Drainage
Schemes (SUDS). Stowell Concrete now offer a bevel-edged
400mm x 400mm hydraulically pressed slab that is designed
to allow water to flow between the specially designed gaps
created by either laying the slabs in chess-board pattern
or by cross-bonding.
The gaps between the slabs should be filled with 2/6.3mm
material (to BS EN 12620) to allow water to permeate into
a 50mm layer of the same material. Below this layer there
should be a layer of 4/20mm of open-graded granular sub-base
type 4/20 (to BS EN 13242).
The resultant 8mm wide gaps create 2% of the surface area
as voids.
Permeable slabs are available in 50 and 65mm thicknesses
and in both grey and buff colours.
